Race car driver Clinton Baker was born and raised in Charleston, Illinois on October 8, 1983. He started racing dirt in the street stock class at the young age of fourteen at Charleston Speedway. From the beginning Clinton Baker has always worked on his own car as well as funded the car himself. Not only is he a smart driver, but he also knows a lot about his own car. The time and money that goes into his cars, for the most part, has been his own. In 2010 Clinton Baker will begin travelling to gain more exposure for himself as well as the sponsors. Clinton Baker is eager to learn from the different tracks to enhance his driving abilities.
After cutting his teeth on the dirt tracks he knew what he had to do. From the beginning Clinton Baker knew that racing was more than just a hobby for him, he wanted to make this his career and be the best of the best. He knew the best way that could happen was to move to the heart-land of racing here in North Carolina. After graduation he moved here to Salisbury, NC to make that dream come true.
“It has not been easy,” stated Clinton Baker. The transfer from driving dirt cars, to asphalt has been a major adjustment. Since the move to North Carolina, Clinton Baker has continued to design, maintain, and fund the cars that he drives. Within the past year itself, Clinton Baker has undergone some major changes. Funding is always an issue considering it is mainly funded by the driver. These funds restrict the potential of the car and Clinton Baker. Even under these conditions, driver Clinton Baker finished third in points at Concord Speedway in 2007.
The 2008 season brought a lot of racing and a lot of new faces. Clinton Baker drove in the Pure Stock division at Concord Speedway. Clinton Baker received third in points and finished in the top 5 every race. Clinton Baker then went onto the 2009 season in the feature division at Concord Speedway, Hickory Motor Speedway and Caraway Speedway. With top 5 finishes and 10th in points at Concord Speedway, Clinton Baker was proud of his first season in the feature races.
